Unless you’ve been disconnected from the tech world recently, you’ve likely used a large language model (LLM). With options like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, and Google’s Gemini, LLMs are becoming common play. However, despite the growing familiarity with these tools, many people have yet to explore the potential of GPTs — customized versions of these models tailored for specific tasks. For me these have been a game changer.

Introduction to GPTs

GPTs, or Generative Pretrained Transformers (talk about a mouthful) are specialized agents built on top of standard LLMs. They allow users to achieve better outcomes by customizing the model’s behavior to suit particular needs. OpenAI describes GPTs as a way to “combine instructions, extra knowledge, and any combination of skills.” In other words, GPTs enable you to create a version of ChatGPT that is optimized for a specific purpose.

This customization is particularly valuable for non-technical users who want to streamline their workflows or automate complex tasks without delving into coding. By configuring a GPT with the right prompts and parameters, you can significantly enhance productivity and decision-making capabilities.
